Double Tenon Mount for Sports Applications - why?
The IL-DTM-R180 double tenon mount is a bracket designed to hold two lighting fixtures extending horizontally on a single pole. The bracket is designed to mount to the top of a lighting pole over a 2-3/8” (60mm) O.D. vertical tenon. This allows two fixtures to be mounted to the round external mount horizontal tenons and adjusted horizontally. However, using these in Sports applications can unlock some serious benefits to this supporting player in the lighting setup.
In sports applications, being able to see properly is a key to maintaining high performance, and maximizing safety. Proper light levels, light distribution, and color temperature always make for a dramatic increase in overall performance when executed properly. The 180 degree double tenon mount has several benefits. Consider below how it can benefit a Tennis or Pickleball court:
1. Enhanced Illumination Coverage
- Even Lighting Distribution: Double tenon mounts allow for the installation of two light fixtures on a single pole, which can be angled to cover different parts of the court. This ensures that the entire playing area, including the baseline, net, and sidelines, is uniformly lit, reducing shadows and dark spots.
- Directional Flexibility: Fixtures can be positioned to minimize glare and optimize lighting angles, providing better visibility for players.
2. Reduced Number of Poles
- Minimized Obstructions: Fewer poles around the court means less visual and physical obstructions, creating a more open and aesthetically pleasing environment. This can also enhance player safety and reduce the risk of interference during play.
- Cost Savings: Reducing the number of poles needed can lower installation and maintenance costs, making it a more cost-effective solution.
3. Improved Safety and Playability
- Better Visibility: With improved lighting, players can see the ball more clearly, enhancing reaction times and overall gameplay quality. This is particularly important for evening or night matches.
- Increased Safety: Proper lighting reduces the risk of accidents and injuries caused by poor visibility, ensuring a safer playing environment for both recreational and competitive matches.
4. Energy Efficiency
- Optimized Fixture Placement: By using fewer poles with dual fixtures, you can strategically place lights to achieve maximum coverage with minimal energy use. Modern LED fixtures used with double tenon mounts are energy-efficient and provide high-intensity light with lower power consumption.
- Reduced Light Spill: Properly directed light fixtures reduce light pollution and spillover into surrounding areas, focusing illumination precisely where it's needed.
5. Ease of Maintenance
- Simplified Maintenance: Having two fixtures on a single pole means maintenance crews can service two lights at once, reducing the time and effort needed for upkeep. This can be particularly advantageous for facilities with multiple courts.
- Durability: Double tenon mounts are designed to securely hold fixtures, reducing the likelihood of damage from weather or impact, thereby extending the lifespan of the lighting system.
Implementation Example
Consider a standard tennis court that requires comprehensive lighting for evening play:
- Pole Placement: Install poles with double tenon mounts along the sides of the court, spaced evenly to provide balanced coverage.
- Fixture Angling: Position the fixtures on each mount to cover both the near and far sides of the court, ensuring that the light reaches all critical areas without creating harsh shadows.
- Light Intensity: Use high-intensity LED fixtures that can be dimmed or brightened as needed, providing flexibility for different playing conditions and times of day.
Summing it all up
Using double tenon mounts for a tennis or pickleball court lighting system offers numerous benefits, including enhanced coverage, reduced infrastructure, improved safety, and energy efficiency. By strategically placing and angling the fixtures, you can create an optimal lighting environment that enhances the playing experience for athletes and spectators alike. Combining all these benefits along with the potential cost savings on the most expensive part of the system will also make you, and your accountant VERY happy!
